Synergy

Jonathan Eldridge

Nail to bitten nail,
cheek to prominent cheek,
as you paint
I gnaw
and flick ends
onto the floor.

Eyes blink,
spying ink.

Lip to cracked lip,
the balm transfers,
and is licked off.
Wide and apologetic
oval lamps;
one flickering

both effervescent
and entirely calming.

Shell to shell,
metamorphosing in one mind
into one piece.
