Afternoon

Laura Lewis

Sudden movement screams for attention;
Only for rising and falling, beating like wings
Sleeping form.
The ticking is out of time but it bothers you not,
Shutting eyes, buzzing wasps.
Flashflood sunlight and a hint of a smile,
It’s not all that bad.

The moonflowers could have told you that.
